My approach to leading high-performance Engineering teams

I lead the engineering team at Buffer, where I set strategy and direction for how we build our product, develop our team, cultivate culture, and retain top talent. Buffer is a mission-driven B2B SaaS service for marketing teams, built to capture and engage audiences on social media.

At Buffer, I built out the engineering org, hiring both engineers and managers and growing the team from from ~15 to 40+ awesome people today, serving a product with 8 million users and 75,000 remarkable brands.

I scaled up Buffer's engineering team from $5 million to $20 million in annual revenue; we acquired 100,000 new users per month and reached a monthly audience of more than 1.5 million.

Prior to Buffer, I was a lead engineer at Tripco, the number one site for travel booking in South Africa. At Tripco, I lead growth efforts for the largest portfolio group, Lekkeslaap, We grew to ~100 teammates and ~20 million in sales.

Prior to Tripco, I founded my own digital agency, Dune8, serving coportate clients in creating compelling online presences before website builders were widely available. I custom built websites with e-commerce integrations. I saw the opportunity to become an entrepreneur out of college, taught myself to code, and never looked back.

I hold a master's degree in Management and Strategy from the London School of Economics, and a bachelors in Philosophy and Economics from the University of Cape Town. I'm also Certified Financial Analyst (CFA).
